I offer a unique style of creative counselling and support, using a wide range of creative art therapies and healing principles to assist you to expand your creativity and discover how you can access your own endless and limitless possibility

I combine personal insight and experiences gained throughout a creative and explorative life, including a lifetime of personal art exploration, and years of experience in the health and healing fields both as a Registered Nurse and now as a qualified Transpersonal Art Therapist

I believe I have the tools to assist you to help achieve your personal goals, whatever they are. My focus is on ensuring that you feel safe and supported at all times during the creative process

I know that creativity and possibility go hand in hand which can then offer the opportunity for personal development, growth and healing and I welcome you to discover this for yourself

I am a current full member of the International Institute for Complementary Therapists (IICT) and hold a current Working With Children certificate

I facilitate my private / on-on-one sessions and the majority of my workshops from my home studio and am based in the Northern Suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. My studio space is the perfect place to feel safe and supported throughout your creative journey

"My emotional palette"

Use a large piece of paper and draw a painters palette

Using different coloured pens, pencils or crayons draw colour 'wells' onto your palette and then write a word in each colour well that describes one of your many daily emotions

Decorate each emotional well with colours you associate with the emotion you have named

When you find yourself feeling one of the emotions you have on your palette and would like to be feeling something different focus on the other emotion and the colours you have chosed to represent that emotion

Very soon you should be feeling a little different

Add to your emotional palette, or create a new one as you discover or identify new emotions

"Celebrating my year"

Why not get into the fesitve season by exploring your achievements for 2008 and getting ready for an expressive and creative 2009!

Take a large piece of paper suitable for both glue and drawing / painting on

Use old magazines and tear out a single image that you believe represents or sums up the year you have had in 2008

Stick the image onto the paper

Think of all the great things you have achieved this year and all the positive and inspirational qualities you have as the unique and amazing individual you are. Draw other images around the central image to represent these qualities

Once you have finished make sure you hang the picture in a place you can see it everyday and celebrate the wonderful year you have had, reflecting on all the achievements you have made and thinking about what it is you might like to achieve next year

If you would like to explore your creativity in preparation for 2009 remember that I am running my "Your Creative '09" workshops on Saturday 10th & 17th of January - it might just be a little of what you need to embrace some creativity in your life!

"My wonderful self"

I attended a birthday party for a fabulous friend of mine recently and was privileged to share in a wonderful ceremony with her to celebrate her birthday. It reminded me how infrequently we really celebrate ourselves and get to hear about the wonderful parts of us we all too often forget about or are not aware of

I think that January is a fabulous time to celebrate who you are – a time to be reminded what it is about yourself that your friends and family love and admire about you. I dare you to write, text, email or call your friends and ask each of them to send you a little summary about you that captures the things that they love and admire about you. Each time you receive one write or print it out and stick it on a big piece of poster paper

Make sure you hang your “wonderful self poster” in a place you can see and read it everyday! Decorate it anyway you like, but be brave, be bold and adventurous with colours and mediums you might not usually use. At the end of January you’ll have a wonderful “poster” filled with reminders about your own wonderful self! What a way to get off to a new year and create something that you’ll have forever – your own “wonderful self poster”

"The Creativity of Nature"

All around us we find nature in it's many wonderful forms. How often do you take the time to actually look at what you see in nature and to experience it's wonder and the healing it has to offer?

I have been drawn to experience nature more and more of late and figured that creativity and nature have so much to share - the very 'creation' of our natural world and the way it changes from minute to minute, hour to hour, day to day, month to month, year to year and so on is an act of creativity like none other

So this month I challenge you to get out into nature and to be creative in nature. This can take so many forms from walking at the beach or in the bush, sitting quietly in the early morning and just breathing, observing the moon and her taking in her beautiful wisdom as she waxes and wanes throughout the month, listening to the birds, spending time with your family and pets outside, drawing, painting or writing about nature and doing it while you are sitting in a natural setting

There really are so many possibilities to experience and appreciate nature and her creativity so get out and create with nature today

"Creative Recycling"

Recycling and it's implications towards looking after our magical planet are still top priorities for so many people. Following on from last month's creativity and nature I figured it would be a good idea to look at ways we can use our creativity with recycling, therefore supporting nature and the natural world in which we live.

Have you ever recycled something in your creative ventures? re-used something no longer useful to yourself or another for it's original purpose? you can recycle all sorts of things in your creative ventures from re-using canvases or paper you have used previously, to creating collage with old magazines or photos, using natural products from your garden such as old leaves, feathers, stones, sand, dried flowers, using old newspapers, material, ribbons, using old jars or plastic containers to store creative objects or as water jars when painting - there really are so many different ways to recycle when creating.

So this month your challenge is to create something using all recycled materials - it doesn't matter what it is as long as it uses your creative energy and is completely recycled!

Go forth and create being assured you are helping to preserve our environment

"Celebrating the day I was born"

Do you know what day of the week you were born on? Why not celebrate this day every week by doing something creative that nurtures your soul. You shouldn't have to wait until your birthday to celebrate your life and get in touch with some self nurturing, you can celebrate every week on the day you were born. There is nothing wrong with baking a cake to celebrate, taking a long walk in a place that you find exciting or inspiring, spending time with friends, writing, making yourself a card, decorating a special place in your home or garden.... it's only limited to your imagination!

See what you can find out about the day you were born and add some of that to your creative exploration on that day each week. For example I was born on a Monday - the day of the Moon so working with the energy of the Moon as she moves through her different phases and perhaps a Moon goddess or two would be a wonderful way to celebrate each Monday (particularly with my Goddess Creativity workshops starting this month!)

As always I challenge you to make the most of your inner creativity and celebrate the day of the week you were born every time it occurs during April... and if you were lucky enough to be born on a Wednesday or Thursday then you get to celebrate 5 times! Enjoy.....

"Doodle Book"

Are you someone who doodles? What do you doodle and where do you doodle? Have you ever considered that the doodling you do might mean something or show you a pattern in your thinking and feeling?

Try keeping a doodle book for the month of May. Get yourself a small notebook or sketchbook and carry it with you so that whenever you feel the need to express something you can do so by doodling in your doodle book. At the end of the month look back over your book and see if there are any patterns in what you have put down on paper? Did you use different types of lines? Colours? Doodle at different times of day? Spend some time contemplating these questions and your doodles and see if they have any messages for you

Were you creative as a child? did you like to draw, paint, glue, play fancy dress type games, imagine you were a magical creature or an animal of some kind, love to read or be read stories?

Do you notice how children you come in to contact with have wonderful imaginations and are incredibly creative? they have no limitation on their creativity and are simply wonderful living creations in their own right

So in June I challenge you to tap into your own child like creativity - make the most of the simple things in life and get out your glue and anything that you can glue down and create a wonderful collage on a big piece of paper! what did you like to glue down when you were a child or what do your kids like to glue together? do you remember ripping pictures out of old magazines? painting pasta and sticking it on a paper plate? using old scraps of material or wool, bits of coloured paper, buttons, sequins, anything hiding in the craft box? well dig them out and get creating like you did when you were a child and you will be amazed at how much fun you will have and how 'freeing' the experience will be

How long has Art Therapy been around?

Art Therapy is not new. It is a very valid and professional form of counselling and therapy that you can find across the world. It has been available in Australia for some time and is beginning to gain acclaim as a great option for people wanting something different to the more traditional styles of counselling or therapy available

So what is Art Therapy?

I find the best way to explain what Art Therapy is, is to say it is a creative style of counselling. When working with an Art Therapist you use creative media or art making materials to help you to express and communicate feelings and thoughts that may be hard to put into words. The creative process and the artwork you create during the process acts like a mirror. You see a reflection of yourself and with the support of your Art Therapist (or Creative Coach) can find insights and solutions to life's challenges in your art work and from the processes an Art Therapist leads you through

"Build your creative castle"

Well to be honest this month was a little challenging for me in terms of coming up with a Creatip - I think I have taken the winter period to heart and my creative mind has gone into hibernation! so I did what we all should do when we feel blocked in any sense of your lives and I turned to the amazing resources I have at hand for a little inspiration

The first thing that I came across is a fabulous book I have by SARK entitled "SARK's New Creative Companion, Ways to Free Your Creative Spirit". I randomly opend the pages and found the following message;

"What do you do with creative blocks? Build a creative castle!"

So this months Creatip is all about building your own creative castle. What are the many creative resources you have in your resource bag? what sort of things do you define as creative that you currently do and what else would you like to add to a new block to help you build your creative castle?

Try drawing some blocks in different shapes and sizes and then cutting them out. Add words to each block to describe one of your creative resources and then when you have a stack of blocks get another sheet of paper - hopefully you have a large piece somewhere (or go out and get one!) and then arrange your blocks onto the paper and build your own creative castle. You might find that there is space for new creative blocks so add some of those in so you can add new creative resources to your castle in the future. Be warned, once you get those creative ideas flowing you may find your castle needs a new room or a new wing!

Now you have an amazing reminder of all the wonderful creative things you can do or want to try. You can refer to this any time you feel blocked and not sure what creative direction to take. I am off to get mine started today!

"Creative Ritual"

Hello creative ones! I hope you are all well and made the most of your creative castles last month?

I have recently been involved in a lot of fabulous ritual work with more to commence in the coming months so I have decided this month to share a little about ritual and challenge you to take up a regular ritual of your own focusing on your creativity.

Ritual is a very personal experience that can be carried out alone or with a group of others, usually who come together for a common purpose. It is about taking time for yourself to honour your uniqueness, your talents, your challenges and the growth and learnings they offer and the magic in the world and in an act of gratefulness and self abundance to thank the universe for all that you have.

I really feel that the key part of a ritual is in repeating a process at regular intervals so as to reinforce the experience and gain maximum benefit. We all have rituals we keep every day but may not think of them as rituals. For example the very act of getting up at a regular time and following the same or relatively similar steps when getting ready for your day is a ritual in it's own right. If you use oracle cards such as angel, spirit, goddess, tarot or similar cards that too is a ritual type experience or ritual for you may be your regular trip to the gym, stopping for coffee at your favourite cafe with friends, reading before going to sleep. The examples of ritual you already embrace as a normal part of your life are endless if you think about it.

So this month I would like you to take some time each day if you can, ideally at a similar time of the day and to create something. This might be as simple as writing down a few words to summarise how you are feeling, or draw a simply image that relates to another experience you have had during your day, or take time for daily meditation, using your oracle cards if you have them to get a message for the day and draw based on those messages. As always it's important to remember that the only thing limiting yourself and your creative expression is you!

Enjoy your ritual and making it a regular part of your life and you'll be amazed at how grounding and supporting it will become and the blessings it will offer

Considering that I am about to showcase my own creativity by participating in the Conscious Living Expo this coming weekend I figured that it would be a great idea to put the creative challenge out there to you all to showcase your own creativity in September!

The challenge is to create something that you think shows the best of your creative self and to share that with someone who has no idea you have this creative streak. Remember your creativity is unique to you and doesn't necessarily mean something that we would think of as artisitic in the traditional sense. Your Creativity may be in your baking, your sewing, gardening, being able to tell stories, jokes, writing, making something out of playdough with the kids or grandkids, finishing a puzzle - the only limitation is your own mind so get your imagination working overtime to challenge yourself and be brave and bold and without judgement for your amazing creation, share your creativity with someone you haven't done so with before. It's such an empowering experience that I am sure you will feel alive and keep creating!

"Visual Journalling"

Have you ever kept a diary or journal of some sort? most people have at some time recorded their daily activites at reasonably regular intervals which constitutes keeping a diary. So what is a visual diary or visual journalling? it's simply a visual extension of keeping a regular diary and becomes an expressive collection of your life if both words and pictures

So how do you keep a visual diary or go about visual journalling? it is as simle as getting yourself a sketch book or journal of some sort, ideally one that is spiral bound as it will expand a little as you add things to it! then use this special book to document anything you want about yourself and your life as you might in a general diary or journal. The visual part comes when you add images and other words into the diary. In the past I have used visual diaries to capture a specific time in my life that was significant, like when I first went travelling on my own in my early 20's. That visual diary has not only my own words to describe the many adventures that I was blessed to experience but also postcards, pictures from magazines, quotes from and information about the people I met on my journey, maps, photographs, drawings and paintings. It is a treasure in it's own right and captures what in hindsight was a significant part of my life

In my own creative life I have at least one visual diary on the go at all times, often 2 so that I have different sized ones. At the moment I have a small A5 size diary that is perfect for keeping in my handbag or work bag most of the time and a larger A3 diary that I keep at home for the 'bigger' things I want to capture. There are no rules about how often you need to add to the diary - remember it is your place to capture and express yourself in your own way so treasure it and enjoy the process and in time you'll have an amazing piece to look back on and inspire you in the future

What I would like you to do this month is to spend some time 'meditating' before you attempt any creative pursuit. By this I mean take a few minutes, somthing like 5 minutes is perfect, to sit quietly in a quiet comfortable place. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths and think about the pursuit you are about to undertake. Let your mind process the creative pursuit in an imaginative way, exploring all the options you can think of. Imagine yourself completing your creative exercise and it turning out better than you imagined. Trust that you know exactly what you need to do nad have all the inner resources you could possibly need

When you have spent this time preparing and tapping into your wisdom commence the exercise you had planned and watch the magic unfold as you create!

"Festive Creativity"

I have to admit that of all times of the year where there is opportunity to be creative, Christmas time has got to be the most obvious one. It is a time when people bake, preparing amazing feasts for family and friends, make their own Christmas cards and gifts, revel in the challenge and fun of creatively wrapping those odd shaped gifts, sing Christmas carols, decorate Christmas trees and our homes with sparkly treasures and all that sort of stuff. If being creative is not something you would usually do at this time of the year then maybe it is time to change that and embrace something new. Therefore the Festive Creativity challenge is to make at least one gift, or one Christmas card, or bake one treat to share with someone else this Christmas.

To give you some inspiration here is my recipe for Christmas biscotti which is a favourite baked treat I only make this time of year. I hope you enjoy it!

Ingredients

• 1 cup (220g) caster sugar
• 2 eggs
• Finely grated rind of 1 lemon
• 2 cups (300g) plain flour, sifted
• 1/2 tsp baking powder
• 150g whole almonds (skin on)
• 1 bag of mixed glace cherries (at the very minimum the red and green ones of course!)

Method

1. Preheat oven to 170°C. Line a large baking tray with baking paper
2. Place sugar, eggs and grated lemon rind in a large bowl. Beat with electric beaters until pale and thick
3. Fold in sifted flour, baking powder, cherries and almonds, then use your hands to lightly knead dough on a floured work surface until the dough is smooth
4. Divide the mixture in half. Form 2 long logs about 25cm long x 5cm wide and place on prepared baking tray, leaving space between logs. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the dough is firm to the touch and slightly golden. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool completely (about an hour)
5. Turn down the oven temperature to 140°C
6. Once dough is cool, use a small serrated knife to cut each log on the diagonal in 0.5cm slices
7. Lay slices flat on the baking tray and return to oven for 15-20 minutes, turning once, until completely dried out. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely. Store in an airtight container for 2-3 weeks

I may also use your Personal Information for secondary purposes closely related to the primary purpose, in circumstances where you would reasonably expect such use or disclosure such as the example covered in the Confidentiality Agreement you signed at commencement of any service you have received from me. You may unsubscribe from my mailing/marketing lists at any time; all you need to do is let me know or sue the unsubscribe function found on my website.

When collecting Personal Information I will, where appropriate and where possible, explain to you why the information is being collected and how it will be used.

Maintaining the Quality of your Personal Information

It is an important part of providing our services to you that your Personal Information is up to date. NPP 3 provides that reasonable steps are taken to make sure that your Personal Information is accurate, complete and up-to-date.

"Creative Goal Setting"

In keeping with the creative consideration I included in my January e-newsletter, 'Setting the Right Intention', I thought that you might get some added creative inspiration by adopting a creative approach to your new year goal setting

What is a Goal? Goals are generally things that we want to achieve in life and may be something focused over a variety of time durations, such as the short term goals of the next week or two, or a month and then the longer term goals that may be for achievement in many months, a year or even longer term than that. They can be focused on any area of our lives and may be personal or for yourself and another, such as in your family unit, or group of people such as in a work environment. There are a lot of different methods used to assist you to set goals that are both challenging and achievable. A couple of examples that come to mind are SMART and SAFE goal setting methods - I won't include information about these here as you can search for information yourselves if you are interested and I want to get into this months Creatip focus of 'Creative Goal Setting'

Tackling your goal setting creatively.... I find that moving away from the traditional writing of my goals and incorporating creative tools is the simplest way to make my goals more creative focused. Here are a few examples;

- Collect and then create a collage using images that represent what you want to achieve

- Draw a circle on a large sheet of paper and divide it into 8 sections - label each to represent a different area of your life. You can then write actions about things you want to achieve in each area using bright bold markers or even crayons to keep it lively, bright and colourful

- Start a small journal dedicated to capturing anything that will assist you to create and focus on goals to enhance your life. You might like to use photographs of things in your life as a reminder, or use different colours to represent different focus areas so that area is easily recognisable to you. For example you might use the colour Yellow to represent your fun goals, or the colour red to represent those things important to your heart

Whatever it is that you do just ensure that you include more than just words as you let your mind explore the goals you hope to achieve to get the most out of 2010! Happy Creative New Year!

Well February is a short month on our calendar but with the summer weather still upon us there is no excuse to make it a month short on creativity. I wrote about 'Having a Creative Go' in this months e-newsletter sent out to all members of my e-newsletter mailing list and in this little musing I put forth the notion that creativity isn't all about being an artist. It is really all about expression and what ever that is for you!

Therefore it is time to get into explorer mode and be brave out there in the big wide world of creativity and see what you can create. Creativity and creative expression is not about being an artist and I get very sad when people limit their possibility in the world by thinking this way. So what will your explorer do this month? what sort of amazing ventures will you undertake and what sort of incredible experiences will you have? you really are your only limitation so get out there and explore and make sure you have fun on the way.........

Class 2 – My Creative He(Art!) – Explore what it means to love and believe in yourself; Critical to living with a Creative He(Art!) is understanding the key values of self worth and self love

Class 3 – I Create! – I will guide you through a process that explores how you create and identifies how you want to create so that you can really be in touch with the uniqueness of your own creativity

Class 4 – Unblocking the Blocks – In this class I will address many of the common saboteurs that can block your creative expression and prevent you from fully expressing yourself in a creative way

Class 5 – I Imagine! – Learn how your imagination is a brilliant support to your creativity. When used in the right way your imagination is one of the most powerful tools you have that you can use to create your beautiful life

Class 6 – Creative Practice – As a true believer that everything in life takes a little practice to master I will teach you how to establish your own creative practice based on the qualities and brilliant magic you have discovered along your Journey to a Creative He(Art!) so that you can authentically state “I am a creative woman creating a life of freedom and infinite possibility from the core of my Creative He(Art!)!!”
